| About the Company
Helynna Brooke and Ann Short, with the help of Helynna's two sisters, created the first ceremony for celebrating the first menstruation of Helynna's daughter in 1994. They continued to assist with ceremonies for family and friends over the next two years. The impact of the ceremonies on both the girls and women was so profound they decided to make the ceremony available to all girls and women. Helynna brings to its creation her training in child development and psychology, parenting a daughter, a stepdaughter, a son, a stepson, and years of involvement with women's and girl's issues. Helynna is a co-founder of The Red Web Foundation The Foundation is a member-run, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting a positive societal view of girls' and women's bodies and menstrual cycles from first menstruation through menopause. Members of The Red Web Foundation form a network of women committed to promoting menstrual health in their personal and professional lives. These “menstrual health advocates” offer a diverse range of products, workshops, and educational materials and include artists, mental health professionals, businesswomen, moms, students, teachers, and health care providers. Ann contributed her talents as an artist, a lifetime of study of rituals and customs of all cultures, experience with youth organizations, and ten years as a merchandiser of girl's clothing and accessories. At 80, she is the mother of three daughters and two sons, and the grandmother of four granddaughters, one step-granddaughter, two grandsons, and a step-grandson. She is a remarkable woman who makes regular trips from San Francisco to New York City to visit her sons, and see as many plays and museums as she can. She is an inspiration to all of her children.
